Wakahisa-Kai Buyo Showcase, Mar. 11, 2007, Sun

Mme. Hisame Wakayagi (photo) of Cypress and her Japanese classical dance school Wakahisa-Kai, and Asian Traditional Dance and Music Foundation Inc. will present Haruno Osarai Kai (Spring Recital) on Sunday, Mar. 11 from 12:30 – 5:00 p.m. at Armstrong Theatre in Torrance. Tickets are $18.
The annual showcase will be coincided with the 10th anniversary of Wakahisa-Kai. Mme. Wakayagi was born in Kusatsu in Shiga prefecture and came to the U.S. 30 years ago. She started learning Japanese classical dance (buyo) since 6 years old. She became a pupil of Mme. Hisami Wakayagi of South Pasadena 15 years ago and eventually became an instructor of Seiha Wakayagi School of Japan.
30 dancers from Mme. Hisame Wakayagi’s West Los Angeles, Culver City, Costa Mesa and Cypress classes will perform traditional dance pieces such as Tsuru Kame, Onnadayu, Shiokumi, Kanda Matsuri, Ryusei, Fujimusume, Miyako Odori, Sanja Matsuri, Renjishi and more.
Special performers include Mme. Himami Wakayagi, Ben Higa of Okinawa Buyo, Hiromi Hashibe of Koto, Masakazu Yoshizawa of Shakuhachi, Yasofuji Kineya and Yasofujiko Kineya of Nagauta.
